Each year we look forward to adding new countries to our festival, and this year we’re happy to have the Dramou family representing Guinea!
Martin Dramou arrived in the US in 2004 and studied at the University of Phoenix, where he received his Master’s Degree in Human Resources and Math. He is currently finishing his PhD in Higher Education while teaching math at Johnston Community College. He and his wife Elisabeth, also a Guinea native, have lived in North Carolina the past 4 years. They are proud parents of 4 beautiful children—Martine is 24, Abel is 8 and the twins, Jeannine and Lucien, are 6 years old.
It is common to find Elisabeth busy in the kitchen cooking for her large family. She loves to make meals from scratch, including the family favorites –rice and vegetables, along with couscous. Her daughter Martine, also a good cook, is often joined by Martin’s mother Pauline Loua, who is visiting from Guinea. She is planning to help them with the cooking at the festival, along with family and friends from the Congo, Cameroon and Nigeria.
Not only will Martin and Elisabeth be sharing their favorite foods with us, they will also be performing on stage! Elisabeth was a member of the National Choir in Guinea and the family loves to sing and dance with the French Community of Raleigh African Drumming group! We are blessed to have the Dramou family as part of our wonderful, diverse community here at St Ann Church!
